Country Guest Houses
For the more discerning traveller who prefers to be surrounded by the peace and tranquillity of the Costa Blanca countryside yet close enough to Benidorm to enjoy a few nights on the town, country guest houses are a superb choice. The bright lights and beaches of Benidorm attract over 4 million visitors per year, and it’s easy to see why as the city really does have a lot to offer, although during the peak summer months it can become quite overwhelming.
The Best Of Both Worlds
When choosing a Costa Blanca holiday, it’s nice to be able to have the best of both worlds, and when staying in country guest houses you can do just that. How about enjoying an al fresco candle lit dinner under the stars, surrounded by the sounds of the night, or maybe kicking up your heels with a flamboyant cabaret dinner show at the famous Benidorm Palace. During the day you could be cooling off in the crystal clear mountain waters of the Algar Waterfalls or bombing about on a jet ski and sunning yourself on Benidorm’s fantastic beaches. Yes, if I had to choose, I would definitely choose the best of both worlds.
Finca El Tossal
When it comes to country guest houses, they all have a charm of their own and Finca El Tossal is a picture perfect Italian style country villa. Situated just 3 kilometres from the little mountain village of Bolulla and 20 kilometres from Benidorm, the villa offers guests a beautiful garden setting among orange groves and pine forests. There are lawns and palm trees surrounding the large swimming pool and an ample terrace area for dining and relaxing, as well as a BBQ area and ample parking. Bolulla enjoys an ideal position just a few kilometres from the stunning Algar Waterfalls where guests can explore one of the largest cactus gardens in the world and take an icy dip in the natural rock pools formed by the cascading falls.
El Tossal’s comfortable accommodation comprises 7 air conditioned and heated junior suites with large beds, lounge and en-suite bathrooms. The suites are furnished in a rustic Mediterranean style and have satellite TV, DVD and a safe box. The south facing suites offer spectacular sea and mountain views. The villa’s spacious interior boasts a lounge, bar and dining room. Sumptuous buffet style breakfasts are included and guests can choose to enjoy a 4 course dinner which is offered 5 days a week or, as many do when staying in country guest houses, dine in the local village or coastal towns.
Casa del Maco
Backed by mountains and pinewood forest, Casa del Maco is a small boutique hotel set in a beautifully restored 18th century Spanish finca. The hotel enjoys a peaceful rural location between the coastal town of Calpe and the small medieval inland town of Benissa, just 30 kilometres from Benidorm. The swimming pool and terraces are nestled among landscaped gardens and offer splendid views all the way to the famous ‘Rock of Ifach’ and the glistening Mediterranean.
The interior of the finca is just as charming and decorated with beautiful antiques and lovingly restored furniture. There is a comfortable lounge area and the elegant wood beamed bar and restaurant is fronted by huge arched windows and doors, making it bright and airy. The restaurant offers two set menus as well as delicious French haute cuisine using wonderful fresh herbs from the chef’s special garden. Casa de Maco’s 4 air conditioned double guest rooms are of varying sizes and are tastefully decorated, boasting antique furniture and come with en-suite bathrooms. They are equipped with minibar, satellite TV, telephone and Wi-Fi.
Villa La Madrugada
Also close to the town of Benissa, the large gardens at Villa La Madrugada are spectacular, boasting views to the sea and mountains and are surrounded by terraces of olives and fruit trees. There is a large sparkling swimming pool, tennis court, manicured lawns and bougainvillea draped dining terraces. Once the residence of British soprano Sarah Brightman, the villa has been lovingly transformed into a small but luxurious hotel boasting a choice of guest accommodation.
The interior of the hotel provides guests with a large comfortable lounge, well stocked bar and restaurant serving a full a la carte menu and snack meals throughout the day. The a la carte menu is offered during lunch and dinner, every day except Sundays and meals can be enjoyed in the restaurant or on the large terrace overlooking the pool. The choice of guest rooms include double, double/twin with pool access, deluxe double, junior suite with terrace & Jacuzzi bath and master suite with terrace and sea views. All rooms are air conditioned with en-suite bathrooms, minibar, satellite TV and safe box.
