Self Drive Attractions

Visiting Benidorm's superb attractions is a highlight for many holidaymakers, and the city boasts a whole range of fun and interesting things to do for young and old. With its wonderful coastline dotted with fishing villages and vast interior of forests, valleys and mountains, the Costa Blanca offers holidaymakers many more fantastic self drive attractions that can be visited on a day out from Benidorm.

Throughout the coastal and inland areas around Benidorm there are beautiful natural parks and marine conservation areas where visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking and horse riding among the many nature trails and bridleways. These reveal splendid panoramic views, an interesting array of flora & fauna, and especially in the mountains and valleys, fragrant wild herbs that add delicious flavours to any dish. Most marine conservation areas allow snorkelling and some allow responsible scuba diving where the pristine underwater world awaits.

Self Drive Attractions

Most of the surrounding self drive attractions of the Costa Blanca can be reached within an hour or two from Benidorm making it possible to visit a variety of places on a day trip. The inland countryside is perfect for horse riding and visitors can choose from several treks or hacks offered by the aptly named Hoof & Mountain Riding Adventures. There are a choice of 2 hour, half day, full day, and week long treks for the more advanced rider. These take in some of the most beautiful areas of the Costa Blanca, and after a hard yet rewarding day in the saddle, riders can look forward to a delicious restaurant meal and comfy bed in a rural hotel.

If horses are not your thing, the rugged mountain roads and trails provide the perfect conditions for a jeep safari that includes a stop for lunch and a refreshing dip in the stunning Algar Waterfalls. Run by Marco Polo Expediciones, these safaris are great fun and include the option of driving a jeep yourself where you will get to test your off road skills on a number of rugged trails and riverbeds. Choosing the even more exciting moonlight jeep safari is a cooler option and provides the chance to spot some of the nocturnal animals as they come out in search of food. A stop at Algar Waterfalls for a delicious BBQ is also included in the safari.

Mountain Adventures

Mountain biking is extremely popular throughout Spain and visitors to Benidorm have a choice of mountain bike adventures including a downhill or riverbed bike ride which is a perfect way to enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery and the thrill of the steep windy roads without the blood, sweat and tears of pedalling the uphills. For the more serious or professional rider, a week long mountain bike adventure takes in a number of exhilarating mountain trails where riders skills and endurance are tested to the limit, and at the end of each day's adventure riders can relax and unwind in comfortable countryside villa accommodation.

Don't feel like pedalling, try a motorcycle tour on a Harley Davidson or the latest BMW G650 X. These are one of the most popular self drive attractions available in Benidorm and offer the choice of a 2 hour or 5 hour tour where you will literally cruise through over 1000 sweeping bends on thrilling mountain roads. Less than an hour's drive from Benidorm are two superb cave systems that are a favourite with children and offer wonderful respite from the summer sun. The Canelobre Caves boast a huge cavern where the cathedral like shape produces perfect acoustics and is often the venue for live music performances.

Self Drive Safari

One of the most exciting self drive attractions for the young ones are zoos and animal parks, and the Aitana Safari Park provides a unique experience, set in a vast wilderness area of 1,500,000m2 where visitors can view animals from five different continents while driving in their own vehicles. The city of Elche is home to two excellent attractions, Rio Safari Elche that offers various activities as well as animal shows and experiences, and the famous Palm Groves of Elche, the largest of its kind in Europe. Not far from Elche, and perfect to combine during a day trip is the charming Carmen del Campillo Tea House where visitors are greeted with an oasis of calm both withing the stunning gardens and equally as impressive Moorish villa.
