Situated about 40 minutes drive from Benidorm, the modern and efficient Alicante Airport services the majority of the Costa Blanca and is the 6th busiest in Spain. Also referred to as Alicante-Elche Airport due to it being part of the municipality of Elche, it has received extensive renovations to meet the demands of greater traffic and the new terminal was opened in 2011. It is the airport of choice for most of Benidorm’s visitors and receives regular flights from a number of budget airlines such as Ryanair, EasyJet and Monarch.
Transport To Benidorm
There are good road links from Alicante Airport to Benidorm via the AP-7 motorway and N-332 coastal road and many visitors rely on friends or family residing in the area to pick them up. Alternately, a metered taxi to Benidorm costs around 65€ with a small additional airport supplement.
By far the cheapest travel option is by bus which arrives and leaves from outside departures on level 2. The bus is comfortable, air conditioned and takes between 40-50 minutes at a price of 9.45€. Passengers wishing to use this service should look for Alsa Bus route CV-403 which stops at the far end of the car and bus pick up points.
Alicante Airport Facilities
Alicante airport offers excellent facilities and since its upgrade in 2011 now has extra services and more check-in desks. There are comfortable lounge areas, a VIP lounge, ATM’s and currency exchange, car hire outlets, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants.
Bars & Restaurants – In the public areas of the terminal visitors can choose from Costa Coffee, Caffriccio, Burger King, Saboramar Gastrobar and Ars-Rodilla. Once passengers are passed customs control there is a further choice of refreshment options including the Carling Pub, Starbucks, Subway, Farggi, Canas y Tapas, The Air Food Court and Burger King.
Terminal Shops – A good range of well known shops can be found throughout the airport terminal including WHSmith, Sunglass Hut, Swarovski, Encanto Alicante, Superskunk, Trucco, Victoria’s Secret, Weekend, The Market and Mora.
Duty Free Shops – Once passengers have made their way through check in and passport control they can relax in the airside lounges and browse a selection of duty free shops. The Arrivals Shop is located on the lower level and the upper level houses The Express Shop and The Shop.
VIP Lounge – Sala Ifach VIP lounge offers an exclusive service of snacks & refreshments, comfortable seating areas, meeting rooms, free WiFi and internet access, computer terminals, telephone, fax, newspapers and magazines, children’s games and air traffic information. It is available to regular passengers paying at the reception desk and holders of club cards or business class tickets from associated airlines.
Taxis & Car Hire
Taxis – Alicante Airport work with Radio Taxi Elche that have an information desk in the arrivals terminal for bookings and inquiries. Alternately, passengers can pick up one of their taxi’s outside both terminals. There may be other taxi companies or ‘moonlighters’ passing by that may be cheaper, but to avoid confrontation it is best to stick with the official company.
Car Hire – There are a number of international hire car companies within the terminal where car hire can be arranged without any previous booking, although in the peak summer months it’s always advisable to book your vehicle before you travel. Any passengers wishing special requirements such as automatic transmission, roof rack or child seats should also consider booking their vehicle in advance.
Passengers using an independent car hire company should seek one that comes recommended and make sure they understand all the relevant paperwork before signing a rental contract. It is also advisable to do a thorough vehicle check for any defects or damage from previous clients and get a company representative to sign off any problems found.

Express Car Park – This is situated on the approach road to the departures terminal and offers a convenient collection service for passengers.
First Class Car Park – Located on the 4th floor of the general car park, this service offers covered parking spaces, security and management personnel.
General Car Park – A very handy car park, just a few metres from the terminal with covered parking spaces, security and management personnel.
Long Stay Car Park – Situated a few minutes drive from the terminal with covered parking spaces, spaces for camper vans and vehicles over 2.10m tall.
