Fishing Villages Tour

A great way to get out and about during a holiday in Benidorm is to take a tour, and there are many different ones available both out to sea and along the coast, including a fishing villages tour of nearby Villajoyosa and Altea. Many of the towns and villages in the coastal regions of the beautiful Costa Blanca are steeped in history and began life as tiny fishing villages before making way for various other industries including tourism. Villajoyosa and Altea are two such towns that despite growing tourism have managed to retain their village like charm.

Fishing Villages Tour

Mandarinablue Travel are a small local company that offer various activities, excursions and day trips along the Costa Blanca. Their fishing villages tour starts with various pick up points along the coast and then on to Villajoyosa, which charmingly translates to ”Joyful Town” and that it certainly is if you are a lover of chocolate. Picturesque mountains are the backdrop to a colourful row of seafront fishing cottages that line the town's promenade. You will get to explore the historical town centre with its Roman bridges and old wall before heading to the famous Valor chocolate factory for a tour and chocolate tasting.

The tour continues with a stop for lunch and refreshments before visiting ‘The jewel of the Mediterranean', Altea. The striking blue and white tiled domes of the Church of La Mare de Déu del Consol stand as a landmark for visitors and offers wonderful photo opportunities. The walk to the church along narrow cobbled streets, lined with wrought iron balconies boasting a riot of colourful flowers, truly gives visitors a sense of how lovely this town is. Here you can choose to remain with your tour guide or explore Altea at your leisure, not forgetting to visit the Marina Greenwich, famous due to it being the only marina in the world through which passes the Meridian of Greenwich.
