Spanish Rice Cooking Experience

Cooking a pot of rice is one of the easiest things to do in the kitchen, but cooking the varieties of paella rice available in Spain is an art form in itself, and you can learn how with a Spanish rice cooking experience. Considered by most countries around the world as Spain's national dish, Paella is actually the regional dish of Valencia. It comes in many forms such as arroz negro (black rice) and arroz a banda which is a flavourful rice dish cooked in fish stock and simply topped with a few seasonal vegetables and a dollop of alioli. The more involved paellas which you see advertised '12 hours notice required' in some restaurants include a riot of ingredients and take quite some time to prepare and master.

Mandarinablue Tours are a small local company based in Alicante that offer a selection of activities, excursions and day trips on the beautiful Costa Blanca. Their Spanish rice cooking experience is held in the bustling town of Santa Pola, just under an hour's drive from Benidorm, where after your cooking lesson and lunch you can spend the rest of your afternoon exploring the town or enjoy some time on the beach.

The day starts at 10:00 where you will meet your tour guide at the Tourist Information Office. The guide will take you on a walk around town, explaining a bit about the traditional dishes of Santa Pola and its fishing heritage before heading to the restaurant for your cooking lesson. After meeting the chef participants are allocated aprons and a paella dish between two persons. With the guide as translator, chef will take you through the cooking process of one of his best rice specialities as in two's you prepare your own masterpiece.
