Sushi Making Workshops

It is often difficult during our day to day working lives to find the time to learn a new skill, so for the sushi fans out there, on your next Benidorm holiday why not take part in a selection of sushi making workshops. The word sushi roughly translates to rice with vinegar and, contrary to popular belief, it was first developed in southeast Asia as a means of preserving fish by wrapping it in vinegar soaked rice, before being introduced to Japan during the 8th century.

Modern Day Sushi

In the last couple of decades the popularity of sushi has soared to the extent that in some western countries there are as many sushi outlets as there are McDonald's. From its humble beginnings as a basic staple of rice and fish, the variety of sushi now available is staggering and with our ever increasing hectic lifestyles it is the perfect eat on the go food. Bursting with flavour, healthy and conveniently cut into bite size pieces, sushi makes the perfect addition to any dinner party, social event or even just a picnic with a difference.

Sushi Making Workshops

The downside to sushi is its price, and for the majority of us it's something we normally eat as a treat, but when you know how to make it yourself it needn't be pricey at all, and with so many varieties available it doesn't have to be made with the more expensive ingredients such as lobster or caviar. Located at the beginning of Benidorm's Old Town on Calle Puente 2, Sushi Ohm are a catering company that offer a variety of sushi making workshops and Japanese cooking courses for both individuals and the catering trade. They also offer sushi catering for all types of events and special occasions.

Sushi Workshop Level 1 – A step by step guide where you will learn all about the preparation, textures, colours, flavours and presentation of a variety of sushi to achieve the perfect results. The workshop duration is 3.30 hours and on completion students can download an online folder containing notes and recipes from the workshop as well as an easy cooking menu. There is also a tasting session of the sushi prepared by your chef, accompanied by wine and students can take home the sushi prepared themselves.

Sushi Workshop Level 2 – Having already gained step by step details of sushi making, in this workshop you will deepen your knowledge of cleaning, cutting, marinading and seasoning a variety of fish and go on to preparing a more creative variety of sushi. The workshop duration is 4.00 hours and on completion students can download an online folder containing notes and recipes from the workshop as well as an easy cooking menu. There is also a tasting session of the sushi prepared by your chef, accompanied by wine and students can take home the sushi prepared themselves.

Sushi Workshop For Children – Kids will have great fun whilst learning the basics of sushi from chef who keeps the lessons lighthearted. They will learn the meaning of sushi, what the basic ingredients are and what nori is. Chef will then show the students how to make some fun dishes such as coloured sushi animals, sushi panda, futomaki and dragon California rolls. The workshop duration is to be agreed by the parents and on completion students can download an online folder containing notes and recipes from the workshop. There is also a tasting session of the sushi prepared by chef, accompanied by a soft drink and students can take home the sushi prepared themselves.
